O.K. before I begin my little rant here, let me just say, I have the utmost respect for Gnosis, personal belief, and what have you, but I think that in many instances, Mythology is being mistaken for hard historical fact, when hard historical fact isn't simply ignored for the swaddling of one's self in utter BULLSHIT.

I have just witnessed a website, created by our gay bashing, white supremacist ex member, which is completely based in such an utter spewing of misinformation. The site in question is called "Pritani, the Neolithic Irish".

Firstly, the Pritani, is NOT some Neolithic Irish race, they popped up around the late Bronze age, and lived mainly during the Iron age. Being "Pre Celtic" means simply that you lived before the advent of European "Celtic" language classifications, and therefore your people didn't speak a Celtic language. The Pritani were known to have spoken a "P-Celtic" language in their early days, and by the time Christianity was coming to Ireland, they were switching to "Q-Celtic". These are the people that the invading Romans called "Picti" or the painted people. While they were somewhat different from many cultures, they were definitely a Celtic people.

At this point you're probably asking why I'm posting this on a Mythological board and not History. LoL, well, I'm not quite finished.

In threads on yet other sites he gets his dumbassity called for what it is, when he claims that not only is he descended from a race of people which no longer exists, or at best lost all cultural distinction in Ireland by the Christian era, he goes on to claim to be blood related to the Fomorii from medieval Irish texts, who *supposedly* existed long before the Pritani.

When explaining himself he goes on to make the claim he is descended from "Rock people" called the "Elven"..." born from the Rock, Rock that came to life via the divine spittle that the Goddess spat forth while holding the earth in her hand on the day of creation"

People I have seen some people who even I consider fluff in my life, but this is severe. Sounds more like some "Wicca" flavored D&D game to me. I seriously pity anyone who takes this person seriously, or follows in his footsteps.

Sometimes I suppose people adhere to more gnosis than others, and there is nothing wrong with that, but there is more to be gained from truthful gnosis (i.e. keeping it within the realm of reality) than entering some fantasy land to protect your off the wall wild claims of ancient authenticity.

In the end, my question to members would be, who is the bigger dork...The Elven Rock man, or the person who can admit their practice and beliefs modern flavored with the ancient? Thus is the depth of the gay bashing white supremist, who graced our boards yesterday.

Wow, that's pretty messed up.

Some people like to use paganism as a medium to make their fantasies a reality. While their stories can be entertaining and humorous, the reality of it all is quite sad and pitiful.

Yeah, it gets pretty deep in places, I highlighted where I needed to really tread crap, but I think you've hit the nail on the head, it seems more or less to be the usage of Irish/Celtic/Stone-age Paganism, to authenticate himself as having the quarter on the root of some ancient form of "Witchcraft", and thus someone to be impressed by, and listen to...Like I said, I've seen some tall tales in my time, but damn! He's got an imagination though, if nothing else you gotta hand him that.

I don't get what you find repelling in that statement.

I didn't either, though I'm not quite sure what she was referring to.

We have to do it, but we're more than happy to do so...

Totally off topic, but can members add articles and links themselves or can only the mods do so?

OK... As I'm getting some complaints. Can we dial this back a little? Less talk about the person and more about the practice that is being manufactured?

(For example, the Childs Behaviour is the Problem, Not the Child himself.)
