I have my own personal opinions on this matter which I will post eventually, but first, What category do you feel Satanism (Levay, Lucifarian (sp?) et.) falls under? Is it Paganism, or the Darker side of Christianity?
Well this is actually a very simple answer on my view on Satanism. It has NOTHING to do with Paganism. Satan is linked to the world because of its connection with Christianity. Satanism I look at as a " religion...loosely used" based mainly on its rebellion against Christ believers. It is not a group whom follow multiple Gods or focus on a connection with their surroundings. To me, it mostly focuses on the judgment against Christianity, sort of their " matter of resistance against the system " for say. Also to actually call it a darker side I believe is a little harsh when you look at Christianity in itself. I mean, come on, any one who sits and honors a symbol of a suffering, dieing man is gross. A religion that allows you to be an arse 6 days out of the week because you are forgiven on Sunday is bull. So in ways is Satanism or Christianity the Darker side? I guess that is a topic in itself, brother. To me, these days, they are really looking like one of the same. So.......to answer the question....
Satanism would fall under Scientology. HA!!! ( it's all crap)

I agree actually in many ways, I think originally Satanism was a way to rebel against the Christian institution, the question is however, was it a way for converted Pagans to rebel, or was it just people rebelling as a whole?
Satanism is individualism. With this in mind no two Satanism will share the same exact definition of what Satanism is.
I can agree that many denominations of Satanism feel this way, as I understand it, in many cases Satanism is a religion of "indulgence" as opposed to Christianity's abstinence. I think in many ways even LaVeyan Satanism is still trying to be opposite.
It is, in fact, this which they hold in common” (p.11)…In this Age man has become God. It is within man’s power to determine his own reality and establish his own law. He is no longer bound to anything greater and his imagination” (p12). I also found an essay by Diane Vera online talking about Satanism and Paganism. I still find confusing because there is belief in some Satanic beliefs that Lucifer or Satan is a God, I have also met Satanist who consider Lilith a Goddess in honoring her and also a demon.
In another discussion on this topic, I happened to do some research on "Satan" as a God. Some people use the bible to make a rather intriguing argument as to the yin/yang nature of the Christian God, saying that Satan was in fact an aspect of God.
Well, I would say ....hopefully, that if a Pagan converted....then they converted. I hate folks to whom can never cross the line to either or. Satanism, to me, can be looked at a form of rebellion but I would have to say that it is not Pagan related, it is ....." I can not stand my Catholic Parent..." syndrome. Then as time went on, I, personally, believe that sadly it has been shown to be a Power trip than a Faith. Plus if they were converted Pagans I am sure they would have had an evil Goddess too......Right Lala!!!! Remember, the women was the down fall of man. Then why not have Satan be a women. So sorry to the Devil lovers but like I said......Fiction is a two way street. Light side-dark side. And also Ying and Yin. The world had to have balance amongst even Faith. Paganism is a separate world and I do not believe Satanism has any links except the concept of defying the Catholic Church. Remember, if you were not in the Church, you were classified as EVIL. Evil to the Church is Satan's work. So, to answer the question, Satanism was created by the work of the Church on the basis of defiance and not following their lead. More like a symbolism for the " wrong" you are doing. So back in the day Paganism would have fallen under Satanism, not the other way around.

Well, there is the issue of being burned alive too, I know for example that when conversion was sweeping across the Roman Empire, it's written that many people, including Emporers were having to Worship Pagan Gods in a church. lol

Ahh, but see, it's a Patriarchal society. Woman is the downfall of man because she was so easily swayed by the dark force of a man. If Satan or the Devil was female, (Not the Kelly Satan), then it would put women up there a little higher.
We all know that's not how it's supposed to be. We're supposed to be governed by the rule of our male masters. To be guided and subservient to them.
Women were the scape goat because they're seen as weaker to and less than their male counterparts.

LoL, I think that may have been Lilith.
lol, no, The down fall of Man is attributed to Eve. Lillith is associated with being the wife to lessor demons after being cast away from Adam and Eden.
1. Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence!
2. Satan represents vital existence instead of spiritual pipe dreams!
3. Satan represents undefiled wisdom instead of hypocritical self-deceit!
4. Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it instead of love wasted on ingrates!
5. Satan represents vengeance instead of turning the other cheek!
6. Satan represents responsibility to the responsible instead of concern for psychic vampires!
7. Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his “divine spiritual and intellectual development,” has become the most vicious animal of all!
8. Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification!
9. Satan has been the best friend the Church has ever had, as He has kept it in business all these years!
The 11 Satanic rules of the earth
. Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked.
2. Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them.
3. When in another’s lair, show him respect or else do not go there.
4. If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat him cruelly and without mercy.
5. Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal.
6. Do not take that which does not belong to you unless it is a burden to the other person and he cries out to be relieved.
7. Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained.
8. Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself.
9. Do not harm little children.
10. Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food.
11. When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him.
I have never met anyone following Satanism in person here in Australia, but I have "met" many recently on another Pagan forum, and I do not consider them Pagans, in comparison to other earth based religions ....I do most certainly think of them as rebels & opposers, and I have seen this increasing in strength to Wiccans rather than only Christians that they hunt........
