Make Kathy Lee accountable for her comments on the Today Show

This is directly from www.thepetitonsite.com:

"NASTY BAD PAGANS?" Protesting hate speech on NBC
Target:NBC, the TODAY Show, Kathy Lee Gifford & sponsor Samsung
Sponsored by: Ellen Everett Hopman & Dana Corby

On Wednesday, June 25, 2008, during a live broadcast of a wedding reception on the TODAY Show, Kathy Lee Gifford gratuitously referred to Pagans as "nasty, bad Pagans." Ms. Gifford's hate speech has done harm to American Pagans' ability to live in peace with our neighbors of other faiths. By allowing her hate speech to be broadcast, her direct employer the TODAY Show, and their network, NBC, participate in that hate speech.

This is a petition calling for, at the very least, an on-air apology. A TODAY Show program devoted to dispelling misconceptions about Pagans and Paganism would go a long ways toward undoing the damage.

Signers of this petition are also putting the sponsor of that TODAY Show segment, Samsung, on notice that we are conducting a BOYCOTT against them until such time as we receive justice.

Please help sign the petiton. The website is:

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/quotnasty-bad-pagansquot-protestin...

We are owed an apology at the very least for a blanket comment as such.

Very Respectfully
Brandy

See, I don’t watch Television for that simple fact right there, call me back woodsy, call me shallow, call me whatever you like, But DON’T call me a "Bad Nasty Pagan" .

My life doesn’t revolve around what "THEY" are doing, it revolves around what "I" am doing. It highly disturbs me that someone, who is watched and known by millions, can get on National television and label "US" Bad Nasty Pagans, I guess like you said, some of you just aren’t affected, To me it's "MY" way of life, and yes it affects me and my family, and yes I am upset.

AND

The only time things of that nature affect me is when someone "Brings" it to my attention, in groups here, or calls me on the phone, or people I visit. I don’t watch BS television shows, I don’t watch BS politics shows, I don’t watch the News of any sort.

I don’t care who Kathy Lee Gifford is, what I care about is what she labeled "US" to be. I, among a few other's will NOT be purchasing anything from Samsung in the future, until We have word that her statement was made right to "OUR PAGAN COMMUNITY"

Well, it is a good excuse to drink. :p

LOL dam right it is! Not to mention its Caturday!!

I just got finished being cursed out by a fellow pagan, as well as told that my religion means nothing to me because I wasn't calling for Kathy Lee's head on a pike. Kinda makes me think that Kathy Lee wasn't too far off with her comment in some respects.

It just seems so...silly. A silly little comment that would have been forgotten about by now had people not latched onto it and decided to bring in the persecution brigade. I'm seeing this on every pagan website I go to, along with all of these replies that are guaranteed to, should a casual bystander read them, perfectly justify her words. Namecalling, mudslinging, just complete and utter garbage coming out of the keyboards of these people who claim to be so offended yet are doing nothing to prove her wrong. Even here. Get drunk and sue her arse? Posting pics of her in an embarassing situation and implying glee at possible physical injury? That's kind of nasty and bad right there, isn't it? Or does it not apply when trying to get petty revenge on someone for calling you a name?

*sigh* And not to mention the amount of rubbing it in I'm going to have to do when the usual Harry Potter protests start up and these same people start claiming that pagans don't get bent out of shape over something silly...

Wow - That sux, but I can't say I'm overly surprised by that kind of reaction. How nasty bad would we be if we just ignored her and didn't give it another thought? With this kind of petition, and the emotions being displayed, not only are we showing that most of us have entirely to much time on our hands, but it's going to make the Christian community think we actually have something to hide.

I know, right? It should have just been laughed off and forgotten about. Yeah, stupid woman, everyone knows she's not that bright, let's all move on. But no, Kathy Lee thinks pagans in the past were nasty and bad...so let's all show her how nasty and bad pagans nowadays can be!

I don't think Kathie Lee's comment was anything more than an attempt to persuade the contestant to pick the appropriate answer, accomplished in an ignorant and unkind manner. She had the answers in front of her, and the funny thing is, the correct answer was also a Pagan (Egyptian) answer! Calling for her head on a pike isn't productive. What would we do with it anyway? We'd have to style her hair, and it would eventually lose its chemically-induced lustre. Asking for an apology - she did make an insincere back-handed generic apology - is appropriate, but not in an arrogant manner. Reminding the network that Kathie Lee isn't capable of off-the-cuff humor without putting her foot in her mouth or saying something that ought to be politically incorrect because she's truly a dumbass is the best way, although I think they know that by now considering the number of complaints they have received since Wednesday.

What would be wonderful is the possibility of Paganism becoming one of those topics added to the list of things one ought not to disrespect on the air.

I wasn't offended because she wasn't talking to me personally. The audible sigh and eye rolling was kept to myself. Poor Kathie Lee. She has no real career, this may be her last chance. She's boring to listen to, has adult ADD, and is very trite. Her picture ought to be in the dictionary next to bimbo.

and it was ever soooo shiny!

GreenWoman, good to see ya back in here! I don't think I'd want her head either... I don't really care for dolls, or styling their hair... Seems like a waste of effort to me.

Nice.

Y'know, I'm a little disappointed in the internet pagan community as a whole. I posted my double-standard thing on at least three different sites, waited at least three days, and not a single person those comments applied to - the ones who have called her names, wished physical harm on her, all that lovely stuff - have stepped up to own their words. The best response I got was "well, we're allowed to do it 'cause we're not on TV". First thing I thought was, well, let's call NBC and get them on TV. Like, hey, lookie what the peacefully protesting pagan community is saying when they're not faking nice for their little petition thing! Then, of course, I was labeled ignorant, an idiot, and told to f*** off more times than you can shake a stick at.

...if I knew how to do it, I would totally do that NBC thing. And I would enjoy it, so very much.

Ya know, I rather enjoyed your blog... of course, I've become the 'Anti-Pagan' for my public stance against the 'Kathy Lee Inquisition'...

As I've stated before, I believe that the majority of the 'righteously offended' are the same people who want to bash the Christian faith on a regular basis.

I really do believe that there is a group of people out there, who just can't be unhappy unless they have someone to fight against, or that they have some 'percieved slight' to complain about.

Again, thanks :)

And it's nice to know I've got some company in the Anti-Pagan club :P
