Today, on the drive into work, I began to muse about how we eat, our ever faster lifestyles and all the things we miss. And by 'miss', I mean those things we fail to pay attention to--though they are in our face.

I was drinking my coffee as I drove and noticed I was not relishing it. I was drinking it, looking for the caffeine fix. So, I was drinking it quickly, and not really noticing the flavor. Now, I am a bit of a coffee purist, and yes, a sometimes connoisseur of the bean...Today it was a Guatemalan Roast with a dash of Cream.

Yet, I was not relishing it. I was not taking the time to truly enjoy it.

How many times in our busy day do we buy something on the run, say at Starbucks (hiss when you say that...) or some other foodie outlet? And then completely fail to truly savor the flavors because we have to stuff our face in order to get somewhere on time or be able to do something in a certain way or under a particular timetable?

This was something that came up in a private session with one of my spiritual teachers recently. It is important because we all require nurturence to truly thrive. Eating food and drinking nourishing beverages is about more than just sustenance. At least it should be. It is also about learning how to thrive, not just survive.

We run and we rush, throughout our days. We have little time for the finer things in life. We always vow to set time aside to enjoy this or that. How often anymore do you actually take it slow? How often do you allow a lazy lunch, dinner or even a slow, easy night on the town? We tend to rush around trying to stuff as many experiences into ourselves as we can, perhaps thinking some day that we will be able to lounge around and remember all the great times we had when we are old and grey...

We live in one of the wealthiest, most progressive countries on the planet. We have a huge bonanza of choice every day. There is such a thing as too many choices. It's called overwhelm, and it can kill you. It starts slow, first with losing yourself in all the choices, then skipping meals to try and do everything, cramming in food and sleep when you remember to. Then you start missing the signals from your body telling you that it is under stress. Then disease forms and still you don't notice. Then, eventually you wake up dead. Then you can't play anymore like you used to.

Take the time now, to enjoy what you already have. Look at the possibilities around you now. Listen to your body and savor what you eat and what you drink.

If you drink too much you become a drunk. Why? Because you didn't savor each and every drink. You cannon balled them right down, bypassing your tastebuds. If you eat too much, you get fat. Why, because you failed to take the time to truly enjoy what you ate. You cannon balled it right down, bypassing your tastebuds. This I know, because I've done both.

I am more and more becoming convinced that Life is about the Journey....NOT the Destination...

.....and Paganism too is about the Journey....Not the Destination....Enjoy Your Journey.....don't get hung up in reaching a particular Destination.....In all the years on my various paths, I have learned that there is no final Destination...even after lifetimes....;Nirvana' after all, is just a state of being and all states of being are transitory....even for the Gods....

Ya Know... I'd planned on sharing this post with all of the members, unfortunately, that's the day I realized that my share feature didn't work any more and I got totally side tracked on the mission of getting that fixed.

Well spoken. Now the trick is to keep that in mind while trying to survive in a world that screams go faster all day long.

Exactly. One does what one can. But at least I don't have to buy into the 'Faster is Better' mantra of society...
