To me, the backbone of honor is self discipline, and doing what has to be done even in the face of adversity, even when you're told or believe that what has to be done is impossible. Life tests us all to a greater or lesser extent, I think, often through spiritual, mental, and/or physical means. Each day presents new challenges, and we face these through self discipline. For example, we have all had those days when you wake up and it just seems pointless, school or work seems an impossible endeavor, as pointless as say, decaffeinated coffee lol, but it is through self discipline, that we get up and endure.

The first time I stood up out of my hospital bed, my knees threatened to buckle, my head spun like laying down after a drunken stupor and I was as weak as a new born kitten. I looked at my reality as impossible, how could such a thing ever be overcome? People tell you that you might always need a walker, or that so much damage had been done that you might never walk again. But you do it, there can be no greater dishonor IMO than failing from fear or from lack of trying. So - you take a step, against all the odds you were given, then another, a step further each day, no matter how much it hurts, no matter how impossible, you remember these three words - 'One...more...step!'

Life IMO, is very similar, we face each day, through the pain work and worry, we take ONE more step, no matter what the cost maybe. We summon up the blood, a forward motion that we never knew we had until it was a necessity.

That as well, is the difference between pride and honor. When you wake to find something has been shoved up every orifice, and you are crippled depending on the pity of others, pride is gone, and defeat has rooted it's self to every aspect of your being, but you stand up out of that bed, face the world and say...'ONE MORE STEP!. And through one's honor they summon the strength needed. And that is the way of it.

Truer words were never spoken - one's only true worth is their level of honor without honor there is no worth.
